Christmas is only a few days away and if you're anything like me and planning on having a Christmas party you're scrambling to get everything together in such a short amount of time. Now it is possible for you to have an amazing event without having to go all crazy and wanting to jump out a window. I mean honestly who waits like about a week before Christmas to plan a party, clearly I do! LOL anyhow so yes it is possible but that also depends on what type of party you want to have, but for the purpose of this post I am going to talk about throwing a dinner party in such a short amount of time. It won’t matter how big or small your dinner is going to be the most important thing is that it’s going to be fabulous and all your guest are going to love it.
When it comes to the décor you honestly don’t need to go all crazy and decorate your entire house, I mean if that’s what you like to do go for it but for me I like to keep things clean and elegant, a little more on the simple side I suppose. A good tablecloth doesn’t have to be expensive as long as you like it and it has a nice feel to it. You can go to Pier1 or Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macys, Bloomingdales, etc. to buy a tablecloth or you could go to the more wallet friendly stores like Michaels, Home Goods, Marshalls, Target, Lots Less, even those random big discount store you might come across will have amazing beautiful tablecloths for a fraction of the cost. Listen throwing a dinner party during the Christmas season even if it’s for 4 to 6 people can quickly become very expensive so save money where you can, no judgment on my end.
Once you have decided what theme or color you want go with concerning décor, you can start thinking about the centerpieces. Usually I do my own and I will no worries I’ll post a Christmas party centerpiece later on this week. But for the purpose of this post I’m going to show you some examples along with links of a couple of different types of centerpieces you can have and that you can do yourself. After that the rest of the dinner should be easy all that is left is how you want the flow of the dinner to go.
The flow of the dinner is super important so it’s always good to have some sort of itinerary you don’t need to write it down or give it to your gift it just a little something to avoid your gift getting bored or hungry. If you’re going to do something similar to a cocktail hour you can place some cheese plates arranged in a serving plate, in different parts of the room such as the coffee table or on the dinner table as well. It depend on the size of the room or apt you live in and a couple bottles of red and white wine should also be already set out, so your guest can have something to drink while they wait. You can also ask your husband, boyfriend, best friend whoever you want to play bartender/host making sure that everyone has a drink in their hand and is having a good time. This is helpful when you’re the one doing the cooking and preparing since you can’t be at two places at once.
Last but not least the menu. Contrary to popular belief you do not need to go all crazy with the menu. You can do simple dishes such has pasta, salads, meat loaf, mash potato and gravy, steaks, roasted chicken, pernil, fruit salad, turkey, rice and gandules, etc. Also remember some of these recipes and more can be found in the recipe section of the blog.
For whatever type of party you chose to have just remember stay true to yourself and always do it your way, yes you want your dinner party to look and be amazing but you don’t need to spend an arm and leg or drive yourself crazy trying to achieve it.
